What's the Point of Smartphone Storytellers?

Stories matter. Stories change lives, inspire change, and entertain. We’ve all got stories worth telling, but I just wish we had a camera that we could use to tell them!

Who is the man behind Smartphone Storytellers?

Hey! My name is Adam Erickson, the man behind Smartphone Storytellers. I’m a filmmaker and teacher, but more than that I’m a husband and father. I also enjoy sailing and gaming, but that’s not why you’re here. You’re most likely here because you want to learn to tell stories to share the impact you’re having at your organization. I know a few things about doing that, as I’ve spent the past 16 years working with organizations on four continents helping them tell their stories and build a support base. The past few years I’ve combined my love of filmmaking with a desire to train up others to do the same, teaching filmmaking and storytelling at numerous universities. Smartphone Storytellers is my way of taking the experience I’ve gained and knowledge I have and equip countless others to share their own stories and connect with their supporters.

What is Smartphone Storytellers?

What is Smartphone storytellers? It’s simple. I’ve had the honor of traveling the world and telling stories of life change, but the biggest thing I’ve found is that there are always more amazing stories worth telling. Even if I spent all of my time telling stories, there’d still be so many more that need to be shared. We live in a world where everyone has an amazing filmmaking tool in their pocket, they just need to know how to use it. That’s why Smartphone Storytellers. My heart is to equip people to use the phone they already have to tell stories of the life change their organizations are seeing.

What’s the purpose behind Smartphone Storytellers?

At this point, it’s not the cameras on our smartphones that are holding us back from telling powerful stories. It’s the knowledge on how to best use them. Are they perfect? Of course not, but as long as we understand how to work around our limitations, we can use them to capture amazing footage that will tell a story. Smartphone Storytellers exists to equip people to tell those stories so they can share the impact they’re having. It’s not all about having the greatest gear, it’s about using what’s available to you and telling powerful stories of life change.
